Diversity is Beautiful!

For the four months from 3rd June 2020 through to the middle of September High Peak SUTR organised weekly vigils in the centre of Glossop and sometimes also in High Lee park, New Mills, in support of Black Lives Matter.  We would usually ‘take the knee’ for 8 minutes – the time George Floyd was prevented from breathing.  We also erected a portable notice board which people could pin messages to.

During the summer of 2020 a group of far right activists demonstrated on top of Mam Tor in the heart of the Peak District. In response Stand up to Racism, along with Buxton Extinction Rebellion, held a counter demonstration on top of Lantern Pike (on a very blustery day in August) with the slogan “Diversity is Beautiful”.
